چکیده

Introduction. Pastures are the primary source of food in livestock systems and can be a suitable niche for insects with beneficial harmful functions. Objective. To estimate entomofauna associated three species pastures, Cenchrus ciliaris, Chloris gayana, Megathyrsus maximus, conditions Colombian Caribbean. Materials methods. Ten samplings were carried out two contrasting periods (August to October 2018 January March 2019), forage (Cenchrus gayana) within 1000 m2 used. Arthropods identified by order family typified functional groups. Diversity abundance indices pasture season estimated, as well their correlation climate. A simple correspondence analysis was performed. Results. total 380 from 7 orders 35 families collected, greatest Hemiptera Coleoptera. The Shannon’s diversity index higher all C. except ciliaris. Phytophages found percentage (66.84 %), followed predators (27.11 %). Insect influenced interaction between pasture, showing an increase at low temperatures, M. maximus. represented adequate microenvironments maintain insects, Coleoptera being most numerous representative groups phytophages predators, respectively. Conclusion. maximus similar insect diversity, however, depended on influence pastures.

Genotypic Variation for Salinity Tolerance in Cenchrus ciliaris L.

Scarcity of irrigation water and increasing soil salinization has threatened the sustainability of forage production in arid and semi-arid region around the globe. Introduction of salt-tolerant perennial species is a promising alternative to overcome forage deficit to meet future livestock needs in salt-affected areas. This study presents the results of a salinity tolerance screening trial whic...

Id # 26–07 Evaluation of a Number of Grass Species for Restoring Degraded Semi-arid Rangelands in Southern Africa

The biophysical environment is an important determinant of land degradation in both commercial and communal land tenure systems in South Africa. According to a recent study on the status of land degradation, approximately 25% of the total land cover in South Africa is degraded. Several technologies exist to restore the soil and vegetation degraded areas in natural pastures. To improve the produ...

Agrobacterium-mediated transient GUS gene expression in buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris L.).

The study was conducted to standardize a protocol for Agrobacterium-mediated genetic transformation of buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris L.). Embryogenic calli, produced from one-year-old mature seeds of buffel grass, were used as target cells for Agrobacterium-mediated transformation. A. tumefaciens strain LBA4404, harbouring pCAMBIA-1301 or pCAMBIA-2301, was used for co-cultivation with embryog...

Why are Chloris gayana leaves shorter in salt-affected plants? Analyses in the elongation zone.

Reduced hydraulic conductance calculated from growth data was suggested to be the main reason for reduced leaf expansion in salt-stressed Chloris gayana (Rhodes grass). In this work, xylem vessel cross-sections and wall enzyme activities were analysed to re-examine the effects of salinity on leaf growth in this species. Maximal segmental growth rates were 20% lower and the growth zone was 23% s...
